The popular art show known as Art Basel returns for 2021 after a hiatus from the Covid-19 epidemic in Miami Beach starting this Thursday, December 2nd. The show was created in 1970 by Basel gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner and Balz Hilt. It attracted over 16,000 visitors in its inaugural year, who viewed work presented by 90 galleries representing 10 countries. Thirty art publishers also participated. By 1975, five years after its creation, the Basel show reached almost 300 exhibitors. The participating galleries came from 21 countries, attracting 37,000 visitors. The 2020 edition was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
